Bandolier/Tsankawi and rain

Our last full day we got up and headed out to Bandolier National Monument.  This was a last minute decision since we had heard that most of the park was closed down due to the fires in July.  Our concierge (who was MIA for most of our stay) assured us that it was worth going and "other trails had opened up".  Let me just say that you don't stay at The Bishop's Lodge for "information".  The guy was totally wrong and it ALMOST wasn't even worth going but we combined the trip with the Tsankawi ruins and a quick drive to The Overlook for some cool views.  To comment further on our hotel staff...the front desk girl "didn't know how to get to downtown Santa Fe".  Ummm, you drive straight and RUN INTO IT.  The guy that worked at the restaurant who at least knew how to get to downtown gave us semi-bad info on the traffic situation to the balloon fest and also had never even heard of Tent Rocks (I think he's lying) or the Sandia Man Cave(which in his defense, not many people had).

Here is a petroglyph.  If you look real hard there's a couple people carved in the rock.
 Nice view at Tsankawi
Cave dwelling at Bandolier.  This was about all you could see.  It was a mile hike out for some not so stellar ruins.  The really good parts of the park - Alcove House and the hike to the falls was closed.
Cool cactus!

Due to some bad luck and poor planning on our part (I guess we should have checked the weather!) it rained the last afternoon we were there.  We had scheduled our horseback ride around the grounds of our hotel for Tuesday because it was the Sunset Ride and we thought that would be cool.  It was cancelled due to all the rain and slippery trails :(  But we did fit in a 50-min couples massage!!!
