Seems like that's the theme of Ben's life these days - early intervention. Mom has been a stickler for things that seem "not quite right". The ENT confirmed on Monday that we should go ahead with the tonsillectomy and he might even take out more adenoid tissue too. So we're forging ahead with that even though we know recovery is going to be harder this time around.
Today was Ben's speech evaluation and hooray! due to some finagling they managed to make him eligible for services. He needed to be 33% delayed which means speech at a 13-month-old level. He is actually at what they deemed "a 15-month-old level" but they qualified him on "quality and production of sound along with tongue protrusion and drooling". Sweet! I'll take what I can get. Not that I've noticed but apparently Ben keeps his tongue forward a lot and that's why he drools (the drooling I have noticed). Anyways, I'm ecstatic to have someone come to my house once a week for a whole hour to work on speech with him and it's all FREE!!! So maybe with a little work we can get him talking like the 19-month-old he is! All the people were really nice. He had a full evaluation of motor, sensory, development, social, and speech so he got to play with and have the attention of four adults this morning for a whole hour and let me tell you, he was in his glory, social butterfly that he is. He is normal or above average on all other aspects so that's nice to know!
Mom is happy that answers and/or help seems to be flowing in our direction...just hoping all this surgery and therapy helps!!
